How does one ProstaFlow capsule travel through the body?
Nitric oxide is not swallowed. The body makes it on demand, and the raw material is arginine. Follow one capsule through six steps.
- The shell opens. The shell is hypromellose, a plant cellulose capsule. It softens in water and releases the powder in the stomach. The label asks for a full 8 oz glass of water.
- The gut absorbs the amino acids. Arginine crosses the gut wall on a shared transporter, so a big protein meal can slow it down. That is the stated reason for the label's 20 to 30 minute gap before a meal.
- The liver takes a share. An enzyme in the liver breaks down a large part of swallowed arginine before it reaches the blood. Citrulline skips that toll.
- An enzyme makes nitric oxide. In the lining of blood vessels, nitric oxide synthase takes arginine and oxygen and makes nitric oxide. It also makes citrulline, which is recycled back to arginine.
- The signal reaches muscle. Nitric oxide activates an enzyme that makes cyclic GMP. Cyclic GMP relaxes smooth muscle.
- Another enzyme switches it off. PDE5 breaks cyclic GMP down. Blocking that step is what prescription PDE5 medicines do.
Why does the panel carry citrulline as well as arginine?
Because the two behave differently on the way in. The kidney converts citrulline into arginine after the liver has taken its share. In a six-arm crossover study in 20 volunteers, citrulline raised plasma arginine more efficiently than arginine itself.
That is the cleverest idea in the formula. It is also where the label has a gap. The malate row prints no ratio, so the citrulline inside its 100 mg cannot be worked out. The arginine AKG row does print its 2:1 ratio. From it you can work out that the capsule holds about 333 mg of arginine in total.
Why is a nitric oxide chain on a prostate label?
Nitric oxide synthase is found in the bladder neck, the urethra and the tissue around the prostate. The tone of that muscle is part of how comfortable the whole area feels. A 2003 review described the arginine, nitric oxide and cyclic GMP chain as part of lower urinary tract physiology. A separate review sets out how PDE5 medicines work there, which is why that drug class was tried for this purpose.
So the target is real. The open question is whether feeding the start of the chain with a few hundred milligrams changes anything at the end of it.
Where does the argument get thin?

The capsule holds under 200 mg of citrulline salts. The pathway is real. The dose is the question.
What do the other three rows do?
- Niacin, 7.5 mg NE. The body turns it into NAD, a carrier used in energy release. The Institute of Medicine puts the adult male requirement at 16 mg NE, so this is a food-level amount, and it is well under the 35 mg upper intake. It will not cause a flush at this size.
- Calcium, 18 mg. That is 1.5% of a Daily Value. At this size calcium carbonate works as a flow aid inside the capsule more than as a nutrient.
- Beta alanine, 40 mg. It raises muscle carnosine, which buffers acid during hard efforts. It has no role in the nitric oxide chain. The sports position stand puts the working range at 4 to 6 g a day.
What does ProstaFlow not do?
It does not reduce the size of a prostate. Nothing in this chain acts on tissue volume. It does not act on hormones, and the site tells us there is no 5-alpha reductase story and no testosterone story. It does not replace a prescription. It is not a quick product, because nothing on the panel is a stimulant. And it has not been shown to move cancer risk in either direction.
Does age change how the pathway behaves?
